A Tribute to Deacon Cheers

To the Family of Deacon George Cheers,

The New Northside Missionary Baptist Church family loved Deacon Cheers.  He was a faithful servant of God, who loved God, and loved praising His Holy Name. He loved his family and his brothers and sisters in Christ.  We know you will miss him and we will miss him, too.  You are in our thoughts and prayers, and remember:

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

Dea. Cheers was a loving father and a child of God. Today may you find comfort in knowing that your father is now in the glory of the presence of our Lord and Savior.

The first time I met Deacon Cheers up close and personal, I was with one of his daughters on our way to choir practice. She wanted to stop at the family home. And as soon as I walked in the door I felt welcomed into a family atmosphere. She introduced me and he smiled. But then I found he had another daughter with whom I had graduated. He looked at me again and smiled as we talked about our families. Every time he saw me in church after that visit, he would smile and speak. On another occasion I visited his home with the Sisters of Mercy. He was so happy to see us. We praised the Lord in prayer, Scripture, and song. He was so overwhelmed with praise, he teared up and started singing. Deacon Cheers lifted our spirits. He was truly a man of God and will be deeply missed.
