The New Covenant Community

Our Father in heaven, we want to be holy as you are holy. You provided a way for us to become holy through the death and resurrection of your son Jesus Christ. Help us Lord to draw near to you through your son and keep us close. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

In the lesson, A Holy People, from 1 Peter 1:13-25, Peter, one of Jesus' desciples, encourages Christians (those who are born-again) to live so people can see your righteousness. The early followers were being persecuted. Peter reminded them that Christians must suffer. Jesus, God's only son suffered for all our sins. We should look at the presecution we face as testing faith, purifying character and developing humility and compassion. Our suffering helps us to grow in ability and to sympathize with others. Submission is one of the first principles we should learn - submission to God's will. The phrase "gird up one's Loins" refers to gathering up your loose thoughts, being sober minded, concentrating on the example set by Jesus and being prepared for obedient service in the kingdom of God. Although, we live in a corrupt society, Christians are to fear God and through Christ we can live holy, loving everyone, according to the Bible, God's Holy Word.
